And the Winner is….

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

Over the last 2 months we ran a sweet little contest for our fans to give away a 200$ gift certificate to Whole Foods Canada. We told you that on August 5th, we’d announce the name of our very lucky winner. Today, one lucky Clipster is going to join the winner’s circle in a matter of moments (after the jump for added suspense, of course).

Before announcing the winner, we’d like to extend a big thanks to all of our awesome participants. We had over one hundred and ten entries for this contest, and are very happy with the results. And, as a bonus it was great getting to interact with all of you and see our little contest spread its wings and fly.

To choose our lucky winner, we used a random number generator to ensure complete fairness. Each entry was assigned a number. So, for each time you RT’d, tweeted us or shared with us on Facebook about our contest, we gave you a number. Today, we entered the total number of entries (112 to be exact) into our number generator and drew lucky number 74 (see below for a picture). Scroll down after the jump to find the name of our winner!

CONGRATULATIONS @MUMSNCHUMS!

@MumsNChums, from Halton Hills, Ontario was entrant #74. She’s won a 200$ Gift Certificate to Whole Foods Canada courtesy of Clip Mobile!

We’ll be in touch to get your address to send over your sweet prize. Clipsters, stay tuned for more great prizes coming up!

A bit of coupon-clipping work can yield savings

Consumers looking for bargains are increasingly clipping coupons.  Apps have made it easy to save without carrying around a bundle of coupons.

There are 3.6 billion coupons distributed every year, but we only cash in about 3 per cent, according to the Coupon Industry Association of Canada (yes, there is such a thing).

It’s likely we’re not taking advantage of these potential money savers because the old-school strategies for putting them to use seem time consuming or inefficient. However, a number of apps and websites are making it easier than ever to take advantage of the savings. A free app like Clip Mobile does all the work for you by finding coupons based on your location. Then, you simply show the code on your mobile device to the cashier to redeem and save.

BNN Coverage on 10 Canadian Mobile/Wireless Companies to Watch in 2010

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Last week IDC Published a Report on 10 Mobile/Wireless Companies to Watch in 2010.  IDC’s Krista Napier was on BNN talking about her report, the industry and some of the companies featured in it.

Clip is identified as bringing to Canadian consumers a valuable service through their mobile device.  A note to Michael Hainsworth, our users are already proving that mobile coupons are not just for tech savvy individuals.  In fact, “mom’s” all over the country are downloading Clip and saving with their mobile device and we expect this trend to continue. Clip has been designed and will continue to be developed as an easy-to-use, interactive and beautifully simple user experience to keep users coming back.  Thanks for the coverage.

Green Zebra Annouces Clip as Mobile Coupon Partner

Friday, May 28th, 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 25, 2010    New Green Zebra Guide Offers Unique Opportunities for Businesses

BC-based social enterprise TB Vets Charitable Foundation, publisher of Green Zebra guide, is now accepting sustainable businesses to feature in Green Zebra’s 2011 edition.  From now until June 18, local businesses can apply to benefit from 16 months of exposure throughout the Greater Vancouver area.

Green Zebra, the Lower Mainland’s only sustainability-themed coupon book, offers exclusive savings on a vast range of products and services.  The book’s broad distribution generates awareness and sales for well-known champions of sustainability like Mountain Equipment Co-op and MarketPlace IGA, as well as newer or smaller businesses that rely on Green Zebra as their primary source of advertising.

“Green Zebra is our most reliable and redeemed promotional option,” says Doug Smith of Vancouver’s East End Food Co-op.  “We can always count on a huge return—and loyal new shoppers.”

One of the new privileges for 2011 participants is Green Zebra’s partnership with Clip Mobile, bringing savings to consumers through a popular iPhone app dedicated entirely to coupons.

“Making Green Zebra coupons available on an app like this is one of the ways we’re helping take ‘green’ mainstream,” explains Rebecca Fry, Business Development Manager for Green Zebra at TB Vets.  “Clip Mobile also features coupons from other businesses outside the Green Zebra network, so the app appeals to consumers whether or not they’re thinking green already.  Our sustainable businesses will have their offers displayed alongside their competitors, building consumer awareness of the businesses that are doing their part for our community.”

Clip Mobile Profiled By IDC for “10 Mobile/Wireless Companies to Watch”

Friday, May 28th, 2010

As part of the Canadian Technology Innovation Watch series of reports, Krista Napier of IDC Canada has selected Clip Mobile Inc. to be included in her report as one of the 10 Mobile Wireless Companies to Watch in 2010. Napier says that with improved high-speed wireless networks, Canada is positioned to accommodate the increasing usage of data intensive apps on the increasing number of smartphones, which have reached about 17% adoption in Canada, with device shipments growing by 22% this year, making mobile and wireless an attractive market.

“Big brands, media companies, service providers, ISVs and enterprises want to get more involved in the mobile space with mobile solutions to better connect and communicate with their end users and/or drive revenue opportunities and efficiencies. However, time and expertise to develop these mobile solutions across platforms are luxuries most companies do not have,” says Napier. “Herein lies the problem in the market, and this is exactly where fast and flexible startups are finding opportunity.”

We couldn’t agree more.  Clip is honored to be included in the report, proof that the launch of a Canada’s location-based mobile coupon network could not have been more timely. Analyst research, media coverage and a growing awareness and appetite amongst users and marketers are just several of the factors that are driving opportunity for mobile services in Canada and abroad.

Congratulations to the other companies profiled!  We are in good company on this list!

Rob Woodbridge of Untether.tv talks LBS Mobile Coupons with Clip Founder Dave Offierski

Friday, May 7th, 2010

What happens when you get two guys who are passionate about mobile, a dodgy skype connection and a disruptive technology?  In this 50-minute interview by Rob Woodbridge of untether.tv and Dave Offierski get down to the business of launching Canada’s location-based mobile coupon network and how to build a scrappy startup poised for big things.

*FYI -notice the backwards writing on the whiteboard behind me,  when setting up the webcam shot before the interview, I tested using Photobooth.  Apparently Photobooth takes a mirror image (setting?) and the message was backwards.  Not wanting to have a blank whiteboard in the background because that would be boring and make us look like slackers, I took 5 minutes to write backwards, “Hi Untether.tv!  Download Clip for Free on Your iPhone, iPod Touch and Android Device.  Blackberry Coming Soon!”  I know you guys were dying to figure that out and the fact that Skpe does not mirror video images.  So now you know!

Global TV Examines How Technology is Empowering Canadian Bargain Hunters

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Collective buying is taking over Toronto but Clip makes savings as simple as pulling out your phone and firing up the app.  Let the Deals Come to You!

Congrats to our buddies over at Teambuy.ca – we are happy to see other Canadian start ups proving that big-dollar valuations aren’t all that when it comes to creating value in a local market.  There is some really big news coming down the pipeline that is going to delight our users as well as our merchants but its a bit premature to share just yet.  Stay tuned!

To add to the suspense, this media coverage is fantastic but it comes just a little too early.  On Wednesday, our largest merchant partner to date and a iconic Canadian brand is adding an exclusive offer for over 100 locations across Canada.  Be sure to open the app to find great deals near you!
